Lawn Care
By admin | May 6, 2008
A lawn is like a large outdoor carpet. The big difference is that lawns are alive. Each square metre contains hundreds of tiny plants, each of which needs food and water.
The lawn is regularly mowed and trampled on and though few plants would put up with such punishment, grass thrives on it. Even so, lawns require regular attention if they are to look their best.
We all want to have a great lawn which can be shown off in the summer with our garden furniture sets and barbecues on hot summer days.
Mowing Tips
1) Reduce the height of long grass in several stages, rather than all at once or the lawn will go brown.
2) Let long grass dry before cutting or it will look ragged.
3) Always use a grass box when mowing fine lawns; this is not essential on hard wearing lawns provided you cut before the grass gets too long - short clippings soon vanish.
4) Use grass clippings as a mulch under mature trees and shrubs or add them to the compost heap. For best compost results use alternate 15cm/6inch layers of grass clippings and kitchen waste or similar.
