Garden Swing Hammocks

By admin | November 12, 2007

Swing hammocks are most people’s idea of the perfect way to relax in their own back yard.  The  great thing about swing hammocks are that they work anywhere.  They are the perfect way to unwind after a long day or a great place to take a quiet nap on a lazy summer day.  Here is some information about swing hammocks and how you can make the most of your purchase.

There are several different options when it comes to swing hammocks.  Some do not come with a frame and are designed to be hung inside, on your porch, or suspended between two trees.  These are usually a simple rope design and not much else.  These options are the least expensive of all the swing hammocks, but be sure you have a strong and secure place to hang it.

Most swing hammocks come with a frame to hang it on.  These are particularly desirable because they can be set up anywhere.  You are not limited to a certain area that has a place to support it.  These frames come in both wooden and metal options.  The wooden options are beautiful, but sometimes need more upkeep than the metal ones.  The often need treating each year to prevent decay and wearing.  If you are not interested in doing this extra bit of maintenance, then choosing a metal option may work better for you.  Look for a powder coated metal frame since these last longer and stand up to the elements better than the non powder coated swing hammock frames.

If you are looking for a basic freestanding swing hammock, you can purchase a simple rope design.  These look uncomfortable, but once you are in them they are actually quite comfortable.  If you plan on spending lots of time or sleeping in your swing hammock, it is wise to invest in a model that comes with cushions.  These are a bit more expensive than the simple rope hammocks, but are well worth the money in comfort and ease of use.

Some swing hammocks look very much like a porch swing.  They have a frame with a canopy and also have a back to them.  These are great since they can double as a swing in your yard and also be used as a swing hammock.  You can get these in two and three seaters.  They are more expensive than the traditional models, but are very versatile and comfortable.

Many swing hammock models can be left outside all year round.  This is great for convenience, but it is usually recommended that you cover it during inclement weather.  Cushions are many time water proof, but you should store them inside during the months that they are not in use to prolong their life.

A swing hammock is truly a great addition to any backyard or outdoor space.  It is a wonderful place to relax and let go of the stress of the day.  If you choose wisely and take care of your swing hammock, it will last you for many years to come.
