Maintenance of Fire Pits

It is that time of the year, when the entire city is covered with snow. The trees are shedding leaving and the temperatures are dipping considerably. Long sunny days and warmth of the sun are retreating. Winter is here; and it is the ideal time to gather your family and enjoy dinner time or a plate of dessert near the garden fire pits.
You can even have a fun night, camping with your children in your own garden, or enjoy quality time with your spouse on the garden swings, near these pits. However, these fire places need to be cared for, especially during winter, else they might be rusted and eventually need to be replaced. Mentioned below are few tips on caring for your garden fire places.
• First and foremost, clean the valves and burners regularly. Just like for cleaning barbecues, you can use a normal detergent for these pits too. Check that the gas pipe is not blocked
• Oil the surface and top grill of the pit, to avoid rust on the wrought iron
• If you have used these pits for cooking, ensure that they are thoroughly cleaned, so as to avoid any kind of mishap due to food stuck in the pipe or near the valve
• One of the easiest ways to protect your fire pit is to store it in a dry place when not in use. Using a large sized covers while storing also helps
• Using your fire places from time to time, helps them function better and last longer
• It is advised that you get your pits regularly checked by professionals, to avoid gas leakage and thus, fire related emergencies
Applying these basic tips, will keep your garden fire places safe and sturdy, hence, saving the cost of replacing them every year.
